The Gardens of Hell
A man has taken refuge on the Galapagos islands, the Gardens or Hell, according to Darwin, abandoning his house in Montreal to a couple of adolescents for whom he had an all-consuming passion. While Marianne and Alexis look for other victims, the narrator records the events of the past few months on tape.
“By alternating the exotic sequences in the Pacific ocean and daily life in Montreal, the author succeeds in creating a counterpoint which turns the book into a living, vibrant thing, borne by a style which often attains the sublime.”
